Marble Maze

July 25, 2015 By Jordan Hallow

I just added all the links to the latest build of my first Unity game under the Games section of the website.  After doing a basic platforming game tutorial, I got the idea of making the main player a marble.  I then got several more ideas for some basic levels I could do with a marble, so I just went with what came to mind.  I drew a few sketches for some of the later levels but the rest I pictured in my mind as I was building them.

Over the past week I spent between six to eight hours placing all the platforms for the levels and placing all the tokens around each of the levels.  Even though it took a lot of time, I thought that this game was really fun to make and I still think I have enough ideas to make at least twenty more levels but I decided early on that ten was a good stopping point so that I could move on to more tutorials and mess around with some other game genres.  Once I learn how to do a few more things with Unity, I think it could be fun to add more levels to this game and release it on mobile platforms in the future possibly, maybe even adding a jump function when the player touches the screen and messing around with using the gyroscope in the phones to move the ball in different directions.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do next in Unity, but I definitely want to mess around more with the scripting and definitely go to Unity 5 at some point in one of the next few projects.  I am happy I was able to get this game done in a week.  Even though I could probably polish it a little more and add a few things to it, I would rather move forward and learn how to do more stuff in the engine.

Anyway, here are all the links for the game: (As of July 2015)

Mac Download Link*

*I don’t own a Mac so I am not sure if it works, but I rendered it in the engine, and compressed it into a file at that link if you want to give it a shot.  I can’t guarantee that link will work, but the online game link should work on Macs if you have the Unity Web Player installed.
